40 Days of Fasting and Prayer - For Righteousness
We have moved into our third week of our 40-day journey of fasting and prayer as we seek the Lord for a return of righteousness in our land. Isaiah prophesied concerning God’s covenant with Israel that one day in their future God would “establish them in righteousness and that oppression and fear would be far from them and no terror would come near them.” (Isaiah 54:14)
That is what we should be praying for in our own nation and in our own personal lives. We are asking God to show kindness and mercy upon us and once more “open the heavens from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness, and let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation.” (Isaiah 45:8) The word “righteousness” in this context means “to do the right thing morally and ethically.” It also includes “justness, honesty and integrity.” The word also is closely associated with “peace.” There is no question that if there is more righteousness reigning in our land and in our own lives that there would be a much greater measure of peace as well.
