40 Days of Fasting and Prayer - Imparted Righteousness
The church must understand that there is a difference between what is called “imputed righteousness” and what is “imparted righteousness.” As believers we have been given God’s gift of grace to be positioned into a “right standing” before a Holy God. It is the goodness of His character. When we totally trust God’s grace alone, we are not only forgiven for our sins, but are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. The sinless Jesus took our sins and gave us His righteousness. This is “imputed righteousness.”
What is “imparted righteousness?” Not only does God “impute” His righteousness to us, but He “imparts” His righteousness nature in us. By the enabling power of His Holy Spirit, God wants us to express or live a righteous life. It’s called RIGHT BEHAVIOR. We are to have a “right[eous]” motives - think “right[eous]” thoughts - speak “right[eous]” words - and do “right[eous]” deeds. This kind of righteousness is holiness in our character and conduct. It is expressing Jesus’ life through our life. If we live right and do what is right, we will be safe and have peace. If we are ethical in all that we do, say and think, we will enjoy protection and victory. Let us be pure, clean and right before the Lord and before others in all of our attitudes and actions. Others then can truly see that we are real people of God.
May the “imparted” righteousness of God once again reign in our hearts!
