The Blessing

Not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. For, the one who desires life, to love and see good days, must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. He must turn away from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears attend to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” I Peter 3:9-12 NASB

Peter introduces this quotation from Psalm 34 with the explanatory conjunction “for” showing that he views the quotation as giving reasons for obeying the exhortation.

According to the Psalmist
  1.  the one who does such things will find life to be most gratifying,
  2.  his days will be good
  3.  God’s eyes will ever be on him to bless him and
  4.  God’s ears will be ready to hear his prayer.

Aren’t these life changing words from the Apostle Peter? Those who follow these instructions of not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing, will live life to the absolute full!

Goodness will abound! God’s eyes will never ever be apart from them! God’s blessings will be on them! And last but not least, God will be waiting intently, for every prayer that is prayed, ready and willing to pour out of His rich abundance! Remember, blessings are not just for those whom we love, they are also for our enemies.
