We are calling our upcoming week of June 28-30 IGNITE week. Our focus will be on igniting those spiritual giftings that God has placed within each one of us to help build up the Body of Christ!

The Apostle Paul reminded his son in the faith to “stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6) The initiative for keeping the fires of the soul stirred is up to each believer. Every believer is to faithfully exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit that have been imparted to you. We must employ every gift in boldness and love.

Most of us are unfamiliar or unknowing as to where or how our spiritual giftings are to be exercised. God’s program for the church involves equipping all members so that they become ministering members. According to Ephesians 4:11, 12, the leadership gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher are given to equip the members of the church, so they can do the work of the ministry. The “fruit” and the “gifts” of God’s Spirit enable God’s people to fulfill their ministry in the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit comes upon us to give us power and authority to carry it out.

Often the power and authority to operate the spiritual giftings are “jump started” or become “manifested” following the receiving of “laying on of hands” with prophetic prayer. This is most often done in the church through mature leaders who function in the office of the prophet.

A prophet is one who brings a timely message from the heart or mind of God. He foretells events. He speaks to leaders and others, and tells them what the future holds if they move outside God’s perfect will. His lessor function is also to “edify” (build up), “exhort” (stir up), and “console” (cheer up) the Body of Christ. He often receives a “word of knowledge” that gives facts and information through supernatural revelation of the Holy Spirit. A “word of knowledge” (1 Corinthians 12:8) is given: 1. To uncover sin; 2. To bring people to God (John 4:18-20); 3. To give guidance and direction; 4. To impart knowledge of future events (Acts 11:27, 28)

IGNITE! Prophet Joe Schrader and his wife Joyce from Tulsa, Oklahoma will be here for teaching on prophetic ministry on Friday night, June 28th at 6:30 p.m.. Those who desire to learn more about this ministry are asked to attend. We will also have the Schraders with us on Sunday morning, June 30th and with the youth on Sunday evening. Let’s stir up those gifts God has given to us!
